Starting the New Year Blessed with good health!
When young many take their good health for granted. As we age, you realize that without good health you are limited in participating in adventures, without pain. That can also play a role in how you complete getting the best shots as an action and outdoor photographer. Up until last year, I could jump up and down onto objects to get a different view or perspective. Now I need a step up or down to complete a shot without falling off balance or injuring myself. ( Example: Jumping some rocks to get from one side of a stream to another, and knowing I wouldn’t fall.)
Here are a few ideas that help.
Balance: What can I now do to preserve or regain what I lost? Go back to my youth and childhood games is a good start! Yes, all those childhood games like jumping rope, playing hopscotch, and skipping actually help with balance and coordination. As an adult, you can add to the list by balancing on one leg, working up to doing the superman, and using a balance ball trainer disc.
Hands & Wrists: Your grip is also something that weakens, but is key to everything we do, not just photography. I use hand a hand exercise ball kit to keep my wrist and grip strong and fingers limber.
